Having been the biggest start that the company has produced, McGregor has been fighting only on rare occasions these days. The last such occasion came over a year ago – at UFC 229. Conor McGregor’s return has since been highly anticipated, and now it seems that plans have been cancelled!

Conor McGregor’s 2019 Return Cancelled

The plan for the Irishman’s return was to come back in December 2019. He would ideally have wanted to face Khabib Nurmagomedov, to whom he lost last year, however, that isn’t happening anymore! Khabib is going to fight Tony Ferguson soon, while other opponents are also engaged in fights such as Masvidal and Diaz, ruling out the possibility of McGregor vs Diaz III anytime soon.

To add to that, Conor McGregor is going to be participating in a Japanese TV show where he will be competing against Floyd ‘the money’ Mayweather and other Japanese athletes over physical strength and skills! This will be happening in December 2019 thereby blocking his calendar from a potential return.

Conor McGregor’s UFC Return Opponent – Will it be McGregor vs Poirier 2?

For now, it is being heavily speculated that when Conor McGregor finally makes his return to UFC in 2020, it will be against Dustin Poirier, who recently lost to Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 242. This will be the second time McGregor vs Poirier happens, as Conor has defeated him once in the past!
